"Take a Seat for the Road" was inspired by Wyclef Jean's unique incorporation of several styles and genres in one song, and Snoop Dogg's West Coast Hip-Hop and Rap flow and vocals. I first started with a concept that I thought would be fun and interesting. I wanted an idea that sounded intriguing. Then, one day it hit me, when someone said "take a seat". I thought it would be fun to some how interpret that literally within a song, so I started brain storming concepts to make this a story.
The processes of brain storming started off by thinking in what scenario would someone would ask you to literally take a seat as in, bring it with you. My first thought ended up being my best, what if there was crazy party where everyone was slowly taking more and more of the building. That's where the line, "Take a seat to go, take the whole budling if you really want a show" came from. Then throughout the song "Take a seat, lay back, chill relax" can be heard. This was to add some juxtaposition. Doing this contrasted the guests calm demeanor while they are literally destroying a building. This concept could be seen in its literal meaning as a funny scenario, or interpreted several ways in its metaphorical context. One interpretation can be the calm demeanor of everyday people while they might fail to realize harm they are causing to the world.
This piece draws from Wyclef's integration of varying styles and genres in a single song by using different instrumentation. This includes the use of elements and riffs traditionally more Latin trap based contrasted by those of Coastal Hip-Hop styles and electric guitar sounds with Rock inspired riffs. This integration is especially apparent at the beginning of the song. In the song this is mentioned in the following stanza: "I said/Take a breath/A rest/A nap if you need/Latin trap, rock, and hip hop/All in one beat/We got all you need".
